Instructions

Briscola is an engaging Italian card game where strategy meets chance. Master the art of timing as you manipulate a 40-card deck, aiming to win tricks with trump cards. The freedom from following suit adds an exciting layer, ensuring every hand is a fresh challenge.

🎮 How to Play

Learning how to play Briscola is simple and fun! A 40-card Italian deck is used. The dealer gives three cards to each player. The next card is placed face-up to determine the Briscola (trump) suit for the hand. The player to the dealer's right leads the first trick. Players are not forced to follow suit; you can play any card. The highest-value card of the lead suit wins, unless a trump is played—then the highest trump wins. The winner of each trick draws a new card from the deck, followed by the other player. This Briscola gameplay continues until all cards are played.

🕹️ Controls

Briscola is designed for simple, intuitive play across all devices.
• Mouse (Desktop/Laptop): Click on the card you wish to select and play.
• Touchscreen (Mobile/Tablet): Tap directly on your chosen card to play it.
• Keyboard (Desktop Shortcut): Use the number keys (1, 2, 3) to quickly select a card from your hand from left to right.
• Game Flow: The game automatically handles dealing, scoring, and progressing to the next hand.

🎯 Objectives

Your primary goal is to outscore your opponent by capturing valuable cards through tricks. Points are earned by winning tricks that contain high-scoring cards: Aces (11 points), Threes (10 points), Kings (4 points), Horses (3 points), and Jacks (2 points). The game is played over multiple hands until one player's cumulative score reaches the victory threshold, typically 61 points out of a possible 120. Success hinges on strategic card play, mastering when to use your trump cards, and cleverly forcing your opponent to waste their high-value cards.

💡 Pro Tips

Elevate your Briscola strategy with these expert insights.
• 🎪 Lead with low trumps early to force out your opponent's high trumps, effectively neutralizing their power for later tricks.
• ⚡ Hold onto your high-value point cards (like Aces and Threes) until the Briscola suit is weakened or exhausted, making them safer to play.
• 💰 If you cannot win a trick, avoid wasting your point cards. "Discard" a low-value, non-point card instead to preserve your scoring potential.
• 🏆 Pay close attention to which cards have already been played. This card counting is essential for predicting what your opponent holds and planning your final moves. Memorize the trump cards that are still in play to control the endgame.
