The game begins with a unique board setup where pawns are on the third rank and certain pieces have swapped starting positions compared to Western chess. Players take turns moving one piece per turn, with the ultimate goal of checkmating the opponent's King ("Khun"). The core mechanics involve strategic piece movement, capturing enemy units by moving onto their square, and promoting pawns ("Bia") to a "Met" (a promoted piece with the same movement as a Ferz) upon reaching the sixth rank. Mastering the distinct movements of the Rua (Rook), Ma (Knight), Khon (a move-limited Bishop), and the powerful Met is key to dominating the board.
